This Spridget race car was built prior to 2002 and driven in various vintage race series over multiple decades. It was acquired by the seller from a friend in 2021 and last raced at the 2022 Lime Rock Historics event. Finished in silver with black graphics, the car features a front-hinged Mk I Bugeye Sprite fiberglass bonnet fitted to a Mk III-era Sprite steel unibody and is powered by a 1,275cc A-Series inline-four linked with a Datsun 210–sourced five-speed manual transmission and a Tran-X limited-slip differential. It rides on 13″ Minator alloy wheels coupled with Carrera tubular shocks at all four corners and has Lockheed brake calipers over 9″ rotors at the front. A tinted windscreen sits ahead of the open cabin, which is outfitted with a Sweet Manufacturing steering wheel, a Kirkey bucket seat, and a roll cage. The engine is equipped with a Weber DCOE carburetor mated to a Warneford intake manifold, and additional racing equipment includes a Lifeline fire-suppression system, a Fuel Safe fuel cell, and an AMB transponder. This Spridget race car is now offered at no reserve in Fairlee, Vermont, with VSCR and HSR logbooks, partial records, spare parts, and a bill of sale.
The car features a front-hinged Mk I Bugeye Sprite fiberglass bonnet and retains Mk III–era Sprite bodywork out back. It is finished in silver with a black over-the-top stripe and wears black #177 meatballs on the bonnet as well as both doors. The windshield has been replaced with a tinted windscreen, and rear-view mirrors are mounted to the roll cage as well as the doors. The headlamps and corner markers have been removed.
The 13×5.5″ Minator alloy wheels are secured using wheel studs and mounted with Hoosier race tires. The car rides on an independent front suspension with coil springs paired with a live rear axle supported by semi-elliptic leaf springs out back.
The seller tells us that the following steering, suspension, and braking components are installed:
- Spherical tie-rod ends and sway bar end links
- 7/8″ front and 1/2″ rear sway bars
- Carrera tubular shocks
- Aftermarket front springs
- Rear panhard rod
- MG MGB–sourced Lockheed front brake calipers
- 9″ front brake rotors
- Wilwood brake-bias adjustment dial under the dash
The stripped cockpit is protected by a roll cage and outfitted with a black vinyl–trimmed Kirkey race seat paired with a RaceQuip six-point harness. The battery is mounted in the right-side footwell, and a 3.0L bottle for the Lifeline fire-suppression system is affixed to the bulkhead to the right of the driver’s seat. The seller notes that the electrical system was rewired in 2022, and a hard-wired AMB transponder is installed in the engine bay. The seller notes that the harness is out of date, the fire-suppression system needs service, and the shift lever boot requires replacement.
A Sweet Manufacturing steering wheel is paired with a Tilton pedal set and frames a clocked Pro Tach tachometer, while a centrally mounted panel houses auxiliary gauges for exhaust temperature, amperage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The car is not equipped with an odometer.
An eight-gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell is installed in the trunk and accompanied by a Facet electric fuel pump.
