There is a way to go through office life without being miserable, and I'm going to share it with you.
Office life is draining, stressful, and damaging to one's mental health. This is not something new; it's common to feel that way, so don't feel weird about it. We have all been there, but the important thing isn't particularly the feeling that you are going through right now. Your main priority should be to get them out and move on, to evolve. You are probably going to spend most of your life working at an office job, so suffering the whole time you are there is not okay. You need to change things to actually have a good time there, or at least a decent one. That's why I created a list of different tips that help you get better at managing the feelings an office job may be causing you.
First tip, and the most important one: make friends, or at least be friendly. Your coworkers are the people with whom you spend the most time. That's why it is important to have a good relationship with them. If you are seeing these people Monday through Friday for 9 hours a day, the least you can do is be civil. They are people like you and me; it's not that hard to find something in common and start to bond over it. Be the one who takes the initiative. During breaks and meetings, start talking to people, ask about their lives. It can all start with a complaint about a task or a customer, something simple and lighthearted. After that, you can look for common ground. In no time, you will have a friendly coworker who makes the days go by faster.
Second tip: romanticize everything. Having an office job isn't particularly glamorous, but you can make it seem like it is. Be like the people on TikTok who film themselves answering emails and looking at spreadsheets all day; they seem as if they were having an amazing job, but they don't. They are simply looking for the aesthetic part of their boring job. You can do that too, and without having to film yourself. Look for the good thing about your job; look at the beauty in it. It will make everything better and easier to go through.
Third tip, and the last one for today. Stop when you need to. The kind of employee who doesn't take breaks, who is always busy, who has lunch at their desk. That employee is suffering more than they should. You can make your day easy by not doing that. Take your mandated break. If you can, take 5 minutes every 2 hours to make yourself some coffee and wash your face. It will make everything stop for a moment, get your cortisol levels down, and give you time to breathe. You need the breaks; that's why they are mandated. So stop working for a second and take it. Everything will be better after your mini break. 5 minutes can change your brain in more ways than you think.
