In Ridley Scott’s new post-apocalyptic film, The Dog Stars, the misanthropic former marine Bangley (Josh Brolin) explains to his partner Hig (Jacob Elordi) that they’re basically living the American dream. They have everything they need on the airstrip where they live, even if most of humanity has been wiped out by a virus and they have to regularly shoot desperate invaders. Bangley warns Hig against wanting anything more.
