This 1962 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country is a nine-passenger station wagon that was sold new at Gimma Chrysler of New Orleans, remained in the same family through 1977, and was purchased by the seller in 2012. A subsequent refurbishment involved performing body and paint work, installing NAPA gas-charged shocks, servicing the suspension, overhauling the brakes, recharging the air conditioning, and replacing various consumable parts. Power is provided by a 413ci RB-series V8 paired with a push-button three-speed automatic transmission, and additional features include canted quad headlights, an electric rear window, power drum brakes, power steering, stainless-steel wheel covers, and whitewall tires in addition to red vinyl upholstery, a fold-down third-row bench seat, three-row air conditioning, a push-button AM radio, and AstraDome gauges. This New Yorker wagon is now offered with an original sales invoice, a broadcast sheet, an owner’s manual, a service/warranty booklet, the seller’s refurbishment records, and an Indiana title in the name of the seller’s trust.
Chrysler produced 793 nine-passenger New Yorker Town & Country wagons for the 1962 model year. This example left the factory finished in Oyster White (WW1), and portions of the body were stripped, repaired of rust, and repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment; a dent on the driver-side rear door was repaired prior to 1977. Styling cues include quad stacked headlights set on a slant, a trapezoidal grille, bright rocker-panel moldings that flow into the wheel arches at both ends, and quarter-panel body-side moldings culminating in fender blades at the rear.
The drop-down tailgate features an electric window, black rubber bumper pads, and a Gimma Chrysler dealership badge. Both chrome bumpers wrap around the car’s corners, and the rear is equipped with black rubber entry-assist steps on either side. Additional exterior features include D-pillar assist handles, a power antenna, and fender-mounted side mirrors with remote adjustability on the driver side.
Black-painted 14″ steel wheels wearing chrome stainless-steel covers are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires that were installed in 2013. The car’s independent front suspension employs longitudinal torsion bars; leaf springs are used out back. NAPA Response gas-charged shocks were fitted at all four corners in 2013, and the control-arm bushings and ball joints were replaced along with the brake master cylinder; in addition, the brake shoes were relined in 2013. The steering is power assisted, as are drum brakes that had all four wheel cylinders replaced in 2026.
The cabin houses three rows of bench seats trimmed in red vinyl (425) with color-coordinated door panels and a contrasting black dash pad and carpeting, the latter of which is overlaid with red rubber floor mats that exhibit wear. Amenities include air conditioning with front and rear vent controls as well as a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a push-button Golden Tone AM radio, a clock, and bright trim.
A color-coordinated steering wheel with a translucent top section fronts an AstraDome instrument cluster containing a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 46k miles, about 500 of which were driven by the seller.
The cargo area features a fold-down rear-facing third-row bench seat.
The 413ci RB-series wedge V8 is equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 340 horsepower when new. The air conditioning was recharged in 2013, and the distributor cap and rotor, battery cables, and various gaskets, hoses, and belts were replaced, as detailed on an ~$8,900 receipt from Peel’s Automotive of Galien, Michigan, that is presented in the photo gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a push-button-shifted TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is noted on underbody components.
The fender tag indicates that the vehicle is a nine-passenger New Yorker Town & Country hardtop wagon (879) that left the factory finished in Oyster White (WW1) over red vinyl upholstery on bench seats (425).
The January 26, 1962, receipt from Gimma Chrysler (a.k.a. Gimma Imports) documents an original pre-tax sale price of $5,025. The vehicle also is accompanied by an owner’s manual, a service/warranty booklet, a broadcast sheet, and the seller’s refurbishment records.
The Indiana title carries an Odometer Exempt brand and notes that the title is a duplicate document.
