This 1968 Ford Mustang was originally delivered to Smith-Gandy Ford in Seattle, Washington, and is one of 4,118 examples ordered with the California Special equipment package for the model year. Finished in Acapulco Blue over blue knit vinyl upholstery, the car is equipped with the GT/CS Equipment Group, power steering, heavy-duty suspension, wheel covers, and Deluxe belts, and it was specified with a J-code 302ci V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller acquired the car on BaT in November 2023, and since that time the seller updated the interior, performed a tune up and oil change, re-applied the GT/CS stripes, and replaced the fuel sending unit, temperature sending unit, battery, and power steering lines. This Mustang coupe is now offered with a Deluxe Marti Report and an Ohio title in the seller’s name.
The car was originally specified in Acapulco Blue (D), and the GT/CS Equipment Package added fiberglass quarter-panel scoops and extensions, a fiberglass decklid spoiler, a fiberglass rear panel, Shelby-style taillights, rectangular fog lights, a hood with functional louvers and exposed locks, side and tail stripes, and a pop-open gas cap. The seller notes the chrome door handles and mirrors were replaced to address pitting finishes, and the stripes were re-applied since the last auction.
Steel 14″ wheels wear different Mustang-branded covers front and rear, and 195/75 Arizonian A/S thin-whitewall tires are mounted all around. The car was optioned from the factory with a heavy-duty suspension that has been fitted with Napa Gas Deluxe HD rear shocks. Braking is handled by drums at each corner, and the power steering lines were replaced since the last auction.
The seller replaced the antenna, labels, carpeting, trunk mat, and floor mats, reupholstered the driver’s seat, and repaired the AM radio.
The steering wheel has an aftermarket wrap, and the five-digit odometer shows under 80k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The seller replaced the fuel and temperature sending units.
The J-code 302ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor as well as valve covers with “Powered by Ford” lettering. Since the last auction the oil and battery were changed and a tune-up was performed. Blue paint is missing from various engine components.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed C-4 automatic transmission and a 3.00:1 conventional rear axle. The muffler and rear section of the exhaust have been replaced.
The Deluxe Marti report lists factory colors and equipment along with production statistics and a build date of April 4, 1968. Manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, and two sets of keys are included in the sale.
The title carries an odometer reading of 79,447 miles with an “Actual” notation.
