This 1968 Mercury Cougar is one of ~623 XR7-G models produced, only a limited number of which were specified with the optional four-speed manual transmission. The car is powered by a 390ci Marauder GT V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, and is finished in Grecian Gold over Parchment leather and vinyl. The XR7-G equipment includes a fiberglass hood scoop and hood pins, Talbot-style driver-side mirror, revised front valance with fog lamps, console, third horn, unique tailpipes, special exterior badging, and styled 14″ steel wheels with XR7-G center caps. According to the seller, who acquired the car in 2025, it remained with its original owner through 2023, with the car reportedly stored in a covered garage beginning in 1998. Recent work included a rebuilt limited-slip rear axle, replacement brake booster and master cylinder, new tires, a re-cored radiator retaining the factory tanks, a carburetor restoration, heater-core replacement, and replacement seals and lighting components. Now indicating 54k miles, this Cougar XR7-G was previously offered on BaT in October 2026 and is now offered again with a Deluxe Marti Report, window sticker, warranty card, owner’s manual, car cover, spare parts, and a Colorado title in the seller’s name.

A total of approximately 623 examples were produced, with the “G” suffix referencing racing driver Dan Gurney. Like the Shelby Mustang, vehicles were delivered to the A.O. Smith facility in groups for conversion. A.O. Smith fabricated the fiberglass hood scoops in-house. The emblems on the steering wheel, trunk latch, headlight cover, and roof pillars were sourced from ASCO, and they were specified with Lucas fog lights, Talbot outside mirrors, and a black Oxford roof covering. Per the seller, the original owner installed a rear spoiler which has been removed, though holes remain, and the original owner also painted the hood and hood scoop in flat black.

The car is finished in Grecian Gold and features a black vinyl roof, concealed headlights, and sequential rear turn signals. Exterior LED bulbs were installed under the current ownership, while FoMoCo headlight bulbs and other bulbs were retained. A passenger-side Talbot-style mirror was also installed. In February 2026, seals and gaskets for the front parking and turn lamps, rear backup lamps, and side-view mirror mounting hardware were replaced.

The car was factory equipped with power steering, heavy-duty suspension, and power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. A brake booster and master cylinder were replaced in April 2023, followed by new tires and brake-fluid service. The suspension is described as largely original, with the possible exception of the upper ball joints.

The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in Parchment leather and vinyl, which exhibits some wear. West Coast Cougars replaced the heater core. In April 2026, LED bulbs were added throughout the interior with the exception of the dashboard. In February 2026, the instrument-panel voltage regulator and center-console light lens were replaced.

The steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, 6,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 54k miles, with approximately 75 miles added under current ownership.

The 390ci Marauder GT V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and rated at 325 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque. Recent service includes a radiator recore using the original date-coded top and bottom tanks, tune-up work including points, plugs, cap, rotor, and wires, fluid service, and factory Holley carburetor restoration by Drew at AFS Carburetors. The intake-manifold gaskets were replaced in April 2023, along with the thermostat and valve-cover gaskets. A new fuel-filler neck was installed in February 2026.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an optional Power Transfer Axle limited-slip differential. The rear axle was rebuilt in April 2023 with replacement axle seals and bearings, and the transmission and rear differential fluids were serviced.

The Marti Report denotes the car’s original specifications.

The window sticker, owner documents, and included records are detailed in the gallery. The sale also includes a spare instrument voltage regulator, carb-to-fuel pump line, and various light bulbs along with LED bulbs for the dash.

The Colorado title carries Antique and Classic brands from a former Pennsylvania title.
