This 1969 Pontiac GTO hardtop coupe was delivered new to Gary Pontiac in Westbrook, Connecticut, finished in Matador Red over black vinyl upholstery. Power comes from a 400ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black Cordova vinyl roof, chrome Cragar wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, a body-color Endura front bumper, quad headlights, a twin-scoop hood, front bucket seats, and a center console. Retained in the seller’s family since 1991, the car was acquired by the seller in 2016. This GTO is offered with PHS Automotive Services documentation, an ownership narrative, a spare set of Rally II wheels and tires, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Matador Red with a black Cordova roof, and parts of the vehicle have been repainted, per the seller. Exterior equipment includes a color-keyed Endura front bumper, quad headlights, a twin-scoop hood, a rear wing, and dual exhaust outlets. Imperfections include a paint chip beneath the passenger-side headlight and a ding on the left-rear quarter panel above the rear wheel opening. The hood-mounted tachometer is inoperative.
Chrome-finished Cragar 15″ S/S wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl, while faux woodgrain trim accents the instrument panel. A center console houses a shifter with a wood knob. The 8-track player does not work.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by an analog clock with a time and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 39k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership. An ownership history narrative provided by the seller from 1982 states the mileage shown at that time was approximately 28k miles.
The 400ci V8 is equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Annual fluid changes are noted by the seller, along with an oil change in preparation for the sale. An oil drip near the rear of the engine is present. The seller notes that the engine was repainted while installed in the bay.
Various drivetrain identification numbers are photographed in the gallery.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which the seller states maintains factory clutch components. A stainless-steel X-pipe exhaust system was installed in 2017.
