This 1970 Volvo 1800E is said to have spent time in Arizona and California before it was acquired by the current owner out of New York in 2019 as a stalled refurbishment project. Subsequent work is said to have included resealing the steering box, fluid changes, and replacing the valve cover gasket, rear axle straps, fuel hoses, radiator mounts, and assorted driveshaft, air conditioning, suspension, braking, and interior components. Powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the car is finished in yellow over black leather upholstery. Equipment includes aftermarket fuel injection components, an early-style grille insert, 15″ Clover wheels, chrome trim, front and rear disc brakes, front bucket seats, a retro-style digital stereo, Rockford Fosgate speakers, flow-through ventilation, and a heater. This 1800E is now offered in Michigan by the seller on behalf of the owner with a transferable New York registration in the owner’s name.
The car was finished in Safari Yellow (100) from the factory, and the seller was told that it was stripped and resprayed under previous ownership. An earlier-specification grille insert has been installed, and exterior details include chrome trim, wrap-around front bumpers, a driver-side mirror, and front vent windows. Chipped paint is visible on the bottom of the left door, and additional photos of the exterior and trim condition are viewable in the gallery.
The 15″ Clover alloy wheels are mounted with 165-series Cooper Sportmaster GLT tires. The car is equipped with an independent front suspension, and stopping power is provided by front and rear disc brakes. Suspension lowering springs are said to have been installed, and work within the last two years consisted of installing braided stainless-steel brake hoses, removing and resealing the steering box, and replacing the upper and lower ball joints, lower control arm bushings, and the rear trailing arms and bushings, according to the seller. The spare tire and tool kit are missing.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black leather, and interior appointments include a padded dashboard, a rear parcel shelf, a heated rear window, flow-through ventilation, R134a air conditioning, and a heater. The seller tells us that work under current ownership included replacing the carpets, seatbelts, left door check, and shifter boot, along with installing a retro-look digital stereo head unit and Rockford Fosgate speakers. The removed factory seatbelts are included in the sale. An area of discoloration is visible on the headliner above the driver’s seat.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil and coolant temperature. An aftermarket analog clock and readouts for fuel level and oil pressure reside in the center of the dashboard. The six-digit odometer shows 227k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. The dashboard inserts were finished to match the exterior under current ownership.
The 2.0-liter B20E inline-four is said to have been rebuilt under previous ownership, and it has been retrofitted with a finned aluminum valve cover. The seller was told that a MegaSquirt electronic fuel injection setup has been installed. Work within the last two years is said to have included an oil change, flushing the coolant system, and replacing the valve cover gasket, rubber fuel hoses, air conditioning components, and radiator mount grommets.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller tells us that work in the last two years included changing the transmission and differential gear oil, and replacing the rubber driveshaft support, driveshaft carrier bearing, and rear axle straps. A replacement exhaust system has been installed, and additional photos of the underside condition are shown in the gallery.
The vehicle is being sold on its transferable New York registration, which serves as the ownership document in New York for vehicles of its age.
