This 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible is finished in Iberian Red over Alabaster leatherette and is powered by an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a single downdraft carburetor, drum brakes, 15″ steel wheels, chrome bumpers, a white soft top, a cabin heater, crank windows, and a cassette radio. The car was acquired by the current owner in the early 2000s, and work performed since 2023 included servicing the fuel and ignition systems and replacing the battery, starter, and right rear wheel cylinder. This 1302 Super Beetle shows 35k miles and is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with recent service records and a New York registration.
The body is finished in Iberian Red and features a white soft top with a matching boot. Exterior details include chrome bumpers, quarter vent windows, dual side mirrors, rear gravel guards, and a louvered engine cover. Silver-finished 15″ steel wheels with chrome VW-stamped hubcaps are mounted with older Cornell tires with cracks on the sidewalls. The car was factory equipped with a MacPherson strut and coil spring front suspension in place of the standard Beetle’s torsion bar setup. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums, and the right rear wheel cylinder was replaced in 2023.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in Alabaster leatherette. Salt-and-pepper carpets line the floors, and additional appointments include a cabin heater, crank windows, and an Audiovox cassette radio. Cracks are visible on the dashboard near the glove box.
The four-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg crest and frames a 90-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was factory rated at 60 horsepower and features an oil-bath air cleaner and a single downdraft carburetor. Work since 2023 included changing the oil, repairing the fuel pump, cleaning and adjusting the carburetor, and replacing the fuel filler hoses, fuel filter, fan belt, battery, stater, ignition condenser, points, and ignition wires.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The floorpans have been replaced, and areas of underside corrosion and filler can be viewed in the gallery.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold with it’s transferrable New York registration.
