Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has appointed Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar as Special Assistant on Northwest Regional Coordination as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election.
The appointment was announced on Friday through a statement shared by Na’ibi on his X account, where he disclosed that he would oversee campaign coordination in Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa states.
Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Na’ibi said Atiku’s commitment to youth inclusion and democratic participation had inspired many young Nigerians to engage actively in politics.
“I am deeply grateful to H.E. Atiku Abubakar for finding me worthy of this responsibility,” he said, adding that the former vice-president had consistently created opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to national development and political leadership.
He pledged to work towards strengthening campaign activities across the three North-West states, affirming his commitment to securing victory for Atiku in the 2027 presidential election.
The appointment comes amid ongoing political developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the platform under which Atiku is pursuing his presidential ambition.
On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the leadership structure headed by former Senate President David Mark, ruling that the caretaker committee was improperly constituted. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise actions and decisions taken under the committee’s leadership, including processes related to Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
However, both Atiku and the ADC have rejected the judgment and indicated their intention to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
The former vice-president has also maintained that his presidential campaign and political activities will continue despite the court’s decision as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.
