Even if it isn't a topic that you choose to pay much attention to, there is no escaping the issues of the climate nowadays. The super El Niño that has been messing with the weather all this summer promises to continue causing problems into next year, and the UN has just broken the news that global temperature rises are expected to exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius sooner rather than later. There is a lot to feel pretty bad about!
Nonetheless, denial and/or doomerism is not the way to go if we care about the planet and living on it responsibly. There are plenty of people who work tirelessly to make improvements and implement changes that can mitigate some of the worst effects of climate change, and it is something that we can all contribute to as well. Whether this is compatible with the system as it stands is another matter, though.
From this perspective, judging everything that is happening with the climate through the lens of memes is a necessary part of getting the word out. Sure, we all more or less know what's in the headlines, but laughing in the face of it is one way to make it seem a little less hopeless, and maybe encourage more positive developments. Perhaps it can also make us think twice about how we can make our lives more environmentally friendly.
