While cereal might not be the top choice of today's breakfast eaters, it is never going away. There will be Cheerios on this planet until the world ends.
The cereal industry is floundering compared to how it used to be doing. The sales of cereal have been on a steady decline for years, and it doesn't taking an advertising genius to see why. Adults are much more likely to eat other kinds of foods for breakfast instead of cereal. The recent protein craze has not done the cereal industry any favors, but it can hardly be blamed for the consistent decline in cereal sales year over year. How many adults do you know that eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast every morning? Most of them are eating yogurt, granola, avocado toast, eggs, breakfast meats or skipping breakfast altogether. It was way more common for adults to eat cereal for breakfast in the 1950s, and even the 1990s than it is today.
Part of that is because we are more health-conscious of a culture. As much as we all love breakfast cereal, we have to admit that most of them have a ton of sugar in them, and don't do much for our health besides keeping our stomachs from growling for a couple of hours. Just because Honey Nut Cheerios claim on the box that they help lower cholesterol does not mean that they are super healthy for you. If you eat a ton of protein and vegetables for other meals of the day, you can get away with eating sugary cereal for breakfast, but otherwise, it isn't the healthiest choice.
But who am I kidding! You clicked on this list to celebrate cereal, not to get a lecture about how it's unhealthy food that even little kids shouldn't eat! If you're a real cereal lover, you will look back fondly on the days when you ate three bowls of Cinnamon Toast Crunch without milk for dinner, even though you probably won't do it ever again. If you're a true fan of this breakfast food, you will hid the Cap'N Crunch from your kids so that they can't eat the whole box before you have a chance to have a delicious midnight snack. If you will eat cereal for the rest of your natural life, these cereal memes are worth scrolling through. Maybe you could even pour a bowl to enjoy them with!
