Four Hunger Games movies have entered the top 10 most-streamed movies ahead of the franchise’s upcoming prequel. However, one movie is missing from the list, despite the renewed interest in the earlier movies.
On HBO Max’s top 10 movies list for November 3, 2026, four major Hunger Games movies have emerged as streaming hits as fans prepare for the anticipated prequel. These include The Hunger Games in third, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes in seventh, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in eighth, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 in tenth.
The streaming resurgence on HBO Max comes just weeks before The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping releases. The new movie is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, bringing audiences back to the big screen to experience a story set decades before the events of the aforementioned installments.
What is the new Hunger Games prequel movie about?Based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, who later becomes the mentor to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, and takes place 24 years before the original movie.
The Second Quarter Quell introduces a particularly brutal challenge for the tributes because instead of the usual 24 children selected from Panem’s 12 districts, the Capitol demands twice as many participants, forcing 28 young people into the arena. Haymitch must navigate the deadly competition while facing the Capitol’s control over the Games and the people forced to take part in them.
Francis Lawrence helms Sunrise on the Reaping, and Joseph Zada plays young Haymitch. The ensemble also incldudes Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, and Ralph Fiennes.
