LONDON − The Eagles had the game won with 8 seconds left on Jake Elliott's field goal, giving them a one-point lead.

Then it was gone in a blink of an eye as Jacksonville's Ameer Abdullah returned the kickoff 53 yards to the Eagles' 38 yard line. There was 1 second left on the clock, and Cam Little nailed a 56-yard field goal, sending the Eagles to a 19-17 loss on Oct. 11.

Still, the Eagles had their chances because of gutsy play led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who despite a depleted lineup around him offensively, found a way to put the Eagles on the brink of a victory.

This after the Jaguars went ahead 16-14 on Trevor Lawrence's 27-yard TD pass on 4th-and-5 with 3:20 left. The extra point missed, however, giving the Eagles the chance to win the game with a field goal.

Technically, it was a home game for the Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But the record crowd for an NFL game here of 61,322 was overwhelmingly comprised of Eagles fans. And twice, when the Jaguars had the ball near the Eagles' goal line, the crowd was so loud that Lawrence either couldn't get the play off, or there was a false start.

The second time was midway through the fourth quarter when the Jaguars were stopped on downs from the Eagles' 5.

Whatever it was, the Jaguars came away empty both times. The first time was at the end of the first half as the Jaguars had three chances from the 1 yard line and couldn't score. Zack Baun threw running back Bhayshul Tuten for a 6-yard loss on 4th-and goal from the 1 as time expired to end the half.

The Eagles needed all of it because they were depleted with injuries, both before the game, and then during the game when running back Will Shipley, edge rusher Jalyx Hunt and right guard Tyler Steen all left with injury.

They also lost backup linebacker and special teams ace Jeremiah Trotter on the opening kickoff when he and the Jaguars' Bryan Thomas were ejected for fighting.

The Eagles had a practice-squad player at center in Jake Majors, a third-string left guard in Willie Lampkin. And after Steen left, career tackle Fred Johnson took over at right guard.

Offensively, it was about as ugly as you could imagine for the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts was 21-for-40 for 240 yards and a touchdown. But one of them went for a 62-yard touchdown to Darius Cooper. The Eagles rushed for just 25 yards, but two of them came on Shipley's touchdown. Shipley was the third-string RB, but he left in the second quarter with a foot injury.

Dameon Pierce, promoted from the practice squad, replaced him. He had just 17 yards on 10 carries.

Yet the Eagles still had a chance, getting the ball back at their 38 with 1:35 left. They took advantage, but the Jags then pulled lightning out of a bottle.

Here are three more takeaways:

Quinyon Mitchell gets first career INT (in regular season)

It had become a case where Mitchell was getting teased for never getting an interception during the regular season. Widely considered one of the NFL's top cornerbacks, Mitchell does have 4 INTs in the playoffs.

But the third-year corner finally broke free, making a diving catch to intercept Trevor Lawrence in the third quarter as the Jaguars faced a 3rd-and-7 from the Eagles' 45. Lawrence was going for Brian Thomas Jr.

Mitchell also had deep coverage as Lawrence tried throwing deep early in the fourth quarter and broke that pass up too.

Darius Cooper keeps catching touchdowns

There has to be a record for biggest percentage of catches that go for touchdowns. Eagles second-year WR Darius Cooper would certainly be challenging it if there was.

That's because his first catch against the Jaguars went for a 62-yard TD. He caught a pass in stride about 15 yards down the field, cut to the inside, then outraced Jaguars defenders into the end zone. For Cooper, that was his 6th reception of the season, 4 of them went for touchdowns.

That gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead with 5:31 left in the first half.

Jalen Carter's dominant first half

Jalen Carter admitted that he had been limited the last few games with a broken wrist. He had been playing with a club on his left hand, which he said has affected his hand movement.

But he was on top of his game against the Jaguars. He sacked Trevor Lawrence twice among his 4 first-half tackles. The first sack, early in the first quarter, put the Jaguars in a 2nd-and-35 bind deep in their territory. The Jaguars did not get a first down.

Still, with the Eagles short-handed on the outside at edge rusher, Carter's play up the middle was needed.
