Peacock’s newest horror series just shattered expectations in its opening week. The 8-part prequel to a legendary slasher franchise pulled in massive streaming numbers that landed it among October’s biggest debuts.

Friday the 13th Prequel, Crystal Lake is a huge hit for Peacock

Peacock’s Crystal Lake made a strong first impression in Nielsen’s streaming charts for Oct. 12-18. Notably, the Friday the 13th prequel series attracted 774 million viewing minutes during its debut week. As a result, the show secured a top-five position among originals after its Oct. 15 launch.

Meanwhile, the prequel arrived amid a streaming landscape heavily tilted toward horror and thrillers. Netflix’s Below claimed the No. 1 spot with 1.3 billion minutes in its sophomore week. Similarly, Prime Video’s Carrie series dropped one position but still earned a robust 1.08 billion minutes. However, that figure represented about a 15 percent decline from its previous week’s total.

Beyond that, Crystal Lake shared the spotlight with several other high-profile arrivals. Netflix’s The Diplomat drew 983 million viewing minutes with the launch of its fourth season. Additionally, Love Is Blind re-entered the rankings with a fresh season, collecting 600 million minutes alongside East of Eden. Furthermore, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso maintained its top-10 presence with 546 million minutes.

On the other hand, the acquired series rankings also featured notable activity during the period. Specifically, Paramount+’s South Park registered its first chart appearance of the year at 540 million minutes. The animated series surfaced partway through its latest season. Among films, Ben Affleck’s Animals remained atop the movie chart for a consecutive week with 756 million minutes.

In addition, seasonal favorites reclaimed their familiar spots on the charts. Disney+’s Hocus Pocus gathered 209 million minutes and placed fifth among movies. Likewise, The Nightmare Before Christmas, streaming on the same platform, ranked seventh with 173 million minutes.

Importantly, Nielsen’s streaming data tracks TV-set viewing only and does not account for computer or mobile consumption. The measurements reflect U.S. audiences alone.
