Live Nation has pulled the plug on next week’s AC/DC concert at the storm-damaged Rogers Stadium .
The event promoter announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday after engineers conducted a “thorough assessment” of the open-air North York concert venue in co-ordination with the City of Toronto, adding that some of the sections had suffered “severe damage” during the “100-year storm” that battered the GTA and other parts of southern Ontario on Sept. 2.

“Last week’s storm was an extraordinary weather event,” Rogers Stadium’s on-site meteorologist Kevin Mahoney said in the statement . “A suspected microburst in the area with extreme winds and heavy rainfall made it a 100-year storm for Toronto.
“We continuously monitor the weather at Rogers Stadium to provide decision support around concert safety. It’s clear by the extreme intensity of the storm that this was exceptional for the region and forensic meteorological analysis is ongoing.”
‘Major’ repairs needed on venue
The status of the concert was immediately in question last week after the storm — which produced hail, heavy rain, strong winds and the threat of tornadoes — left a portion of the temporary back grandstand crumpled like an accordion, which CTV captured via aerial shots of the stadium.
That led to the city issuing an order to “remedy an unsafe building,” York Centre Councillor James Pasternak told CTV last week, adding that the damage to the north stands was “quite significant” and that it would require a “major operation” to clear the rubble and restore the section.
Live Nation said that some of the damaged sections still need to be removed and rebuilt before events can go ahead again, meaning the “venue is not capable of hosting fans” for the Sept. 16 concert featuring the Aussie hard rockers.
“Cancelling a concert is never a decision we want to make and we know how disappointing this will be for all of us who have been looking forward to seeing AC/DC close out our summer season,” Live Nation Canada business operations president Wayne Zronik said.

No other events scheduled this year
He added that “safety has to come first” and that they have been working closely with the city to determine the next steps.
“The right decision is to take the time to remove and rebuild the affected parts of the stadium to ensure it is ready to welcome fans next summer,” Zronik said.
Live Nation said that original ticket purchases for the concert will be automatically refunded in full through Ticketmaster, while fans who purchased resale tickets should contact their preferred vendor for refund information.
The Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap hitmakers, meanwhile, are slated to play Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saturday, which will now be followed by their Sept. 20 concert at Winnipeg’s Princess Auto Stadium. They currently only have two other stops scheduled: Sept. 25 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and Sept. 29 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.
As Zronik mentioned, there are no other events scheduled for Rogers Stadium this year as AC/DC was slated to close out 2026.
