Glen Powell just locked in his next major project, and it’s a remake that thriller fans won’t want to miss. The actor’s production company teamed with Universal to bring an acclaimed Korean film to Hollywood with a fresh creative team.

Glen Powell to produce Confession of Murder, writer found

Universal has acquired the feature remake rights to the 2012 Korean film Confession of Murder, Deadline reported. The studio tapped Chris MacBride to write the script for the project. Glen Powell and Dan Cohen will produce through their Barnstorm banner alongside Winged Tiger’s Naomi Funabashi and Rishi Rajani.

The original film centers on a suspected killer who publishes a book detailing murders he cannot face trial for. Jung Jae-Yung starred in the pic, and Jung Byung-gil directed it. B.A. Entertainment CEO Billy Acumen produced the original, and sources indicate he will likely join the adaptation.

MacBride keeps his specific pitch details under wraps at this time. Universal’s Christine Sun oversees the project for the studio, and Barnstorm’s Jacquelina Rosso will co-produce.

Powell and Cohen founded Barnstorm in 2025 and have rapidly built a busy slate since then. Their film The Comeback King stars Powell, with Judd Apatow directing and a February 5 release date. Additionally, the company’s Hulu series Chad Powers drops its second season this week.

Last month, Barnstorm also announced a Lou Gehrig movie with Universal that reunites Powell and director Richard Linklater. Meanwhile, Winged Tiger has produced Sundance and Independent Spirit Award-winning films like A Thousand and One.

MacBride recently sold his feature pitch Kingmakers to Netflix with 21 Laps producing. He also wrote the global action thriller The Wolf for Amazon MGM Studios. Before that, he rewrote Face/Off 2 for Paramount with Adam Wingard attached to direct. CAA and JSSK represent Powell and Barnstorm, while CAA and Range also rep MacBride.
