The news is out, motorsport fans: Rookie Racing is going to set up shop in the Philippines. This news comes on the same weekend that Toyota announced the launch of the GR86 Cup in 2027.

Rookie Racing is a privateer racing team founded by Toyota chairman himself, Akio Toyoda. Morizo, as he is better known in his racing endeavors, has been consistently active in motorsports over the years. He was also heavily involved in the development of one of Toyota’s most exciting cars to date, the GR Yaris. As we all know, that homologation special was then followed by the GR Corolla, and more recently, the GR GT.

Anyway, back to the news. Formally called Rookie Racing Garage Manila, it will be a home where enthusiasts can “personalize their vehicles, discover exciting performance cars, learn the art of racing and performance driving, and connect with others who share the same passion.”

While other specific details of Rookie Racing Garage Manila’s operations remain unclear, we do know that in other countries like its home country of Japan, RR competes in multiple championships such as the Super Taikyu Series and Super GT. Toyota will hold a formal press conference for this in the Philippines soon, so we’ll have more details then.

“As Rookie Racing expands its activities across Asia, we are honored that the Philippines can be part of that vision,” said Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto. “Through Rookie Racing Garage Manila, we hope to cultivate a community that embodies the same spirit of passion, family, and continuous growth.
