Sitting upon one of the hills in Ras Al Khaimah, Al Qasimi Palace, also known as Al Qasr Al Ghamedh (the Haunted Palace), is one of the UAE's most fascinating landmarks. Commissioned by the late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi, construction began in 1975 and took years to complete.
Although the palace was built as a grand private residence, it remained largely unoccupied for around 35 years. Over the years, stories have spread that the palace is 'haunted' and today it has a reputation as Ras Al Khaimah's "haunted palace".
In 2019, the palace was purchased and restored. Today, visitors can explore 35 rooms filled with ornate furniture, sculptures, antiques, chandeliers, and artwork. Many of the original intricate tile murals and paintings have been preserved, while damaged pieces have been restored. One of the most impressive features is the palace's grand glass pyramid, decorated with paintings of the 12 zodiac signs.
