Alec Baldwin, who discharged the prop weapon, had some thoughts on the project that followed his life after the accident. Kennedy revealed what Baldwin felt about the movie, saying, “He really, really, really didn’t like it.” She would go on to explain, “He had five jobs in Hollywood; all of his producing friends called him up and fired him, and he has seven kids, and then he was just annihilated in the press and on social media, and people said really mean, horrible things about him, and he reads them — which I would advise him not to do — but in any case, I think it’s traumatic to watch this.”
What is The Trial of Alec Baldwin about? The Trial of Alec Baldwin looks into the aftermath of the Rust shooting incident. It particularly focuses on Alec Baldwin’s trial over the tragedy, in which the actor discharged the prop weapon that fatally shot cinematographer Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza.
There are several aspects of Baldwin’s ordeal that the documentary focuses on, beyond his court proceedings. While the legal facts painted a different picture, Baldwin found himself scrutinized in the public eye, with the narrative taking a negative angle on the actor’s role in the tragedy. The situation was further complicated by Baldwin’s straightforward, almost combative nature and his high-profile acting career.
The movie is a result of unprecedented access that Kennedy received while working on the project. She followed Baldwin through his New Mexico trial, his reshoots in Montana for the movie, and his life after the trial in New York. While Baldwin was acquitted, the actor realized that there was a long road to recovery when it came to the public’s perception of him.
