Available in two colors, starlight and midnight (which does not seem very dark), and three storage capacities: 128, 256, and 512 GB. Pricing, with the previous-generation A17 Pro model for reference, both before and after Apple’s June 25 price hikes:

IPAD MINI 128 GB 256 GB 512 GB
A20 Pro (new) $700 $800 $1000
A17 Pro (Q3 2026 price hike) $600 $700 $900
A17 Pro (Q4 2024–Q2 2026) $500 $600 $800

Notes:

  • Cellular adds $150 to any model.

  • The $100 nano-texture display option is new for the iPad Mini, and is only available with 256 or 512 GB storage.

  • Still stuck with Touch ID — a bummer in general, and a shit sandwich given how expensive these have gotten. Unless Apple decides to make a mini-sized iPad Pro (which I definitely do not expect), there’s no way to buy a mini-sized iPad with Face ID.

  • The display is now OLED, with inky-deep blacks and brighter brights. Max SDR brightness goes from 500 to 600 nits and HDR content goes to 1200 nits. This is the first iPad Mini with an XDR display. But: no ProMotion.

  • Support for Pencil Pro and Pencil USB-C. I still can’t believe the $2000 iPhone Duo doesn’t support the superior Pencil Pro.

  • The new Mini is thinner (5.4mm vs. 6.3mm) and lighter (255g vs. 293g for Wi-Fi models). The display is slightly larger (8.5″ vs. 8.3″) while the footprint shrank slightly, because the bezels have been reduced by 25 percent. The iPhone Duo weighs almost exactly the same (254g to be exact) but its inner display is only 7.6 inches diagonally.

  • The front-facing camera moves from the short side to the long side. All current iPads now have the camera on the long side.

  • The new iPad Mini introduces what Apple calls the Acoustic Display: “custom tweeters and woofers are now hidden beneath the glass and enclosure, delivering a rich, personal audio experience.” This change helped Apple achieve IP67 dust and water resistance, best-ever for any iPad model.

One last point. The previous iPad Mini launched two years ago, in October 2024, but had the now-three-year-old A17 Pro chip from the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro. Today’s new iPad Mini launches with the brand-new A20 Pro chip that debuted with last month’s iPhone 18 Pro and last week’s iPhone Duo.
