Alex Dunphy is officially stepping back onto the small screen. Nearly six years after Modern Family closed its doors, Ariel Winter has made it to her first major live-action series regular role since the hit ABC sitcom wrapped. The 28-year-old actress is set to co-star in Change of Heart, an upcoming original scripted drama series slated for Hallmark+, according to Deadline.

She will play Brit Wyatt, the protagonist’s sister. The role marks Winter’s first regular role in a live-action series since playing Alex Dunphy for 11 seasons on Modern Family.

The 28-year-old actress most recently appeared as Cognita in the Nickelodeon movie Clash of the Thundermans. Her other acting credits include Don’t Log Off, Pools, Like Father Like Son, Tripped Up, Bully, The Quarry, and The Last Movie Star.

Winter has also built an extensive voice-acting portfolio, lending her voice to projects such as the Sofia the First franchise, Phineas and Ferb, The Sisters Grimm, Star Trek: Lower Decks, American Dad!, and Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Ariel Winter joins Sam Jaeger and three other actors in Change of Heart

Alongside the Modern Family star, Change of Heart has added four more cast members to the ensemble. These include The Handmaid’s Tale’s Sam Jaeger, Rachel Boston, Julie Gonzalo, and Kevin Vidal. Jaeger will star as the main character, Charlie Wyatt, while the roles of the remaining three cast members have not yet been disclosed.

Jaeger’s acting credits include Take Me Home, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Wilderness, Wolf Man, Devil in Ohio, Bad Monkey, Shazam!, and Why Women Kill. Meanwhile, Boston was seen in 500 Days of Summer, A Biltmore Christmas, The More the Merrier, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Witches of East End, and American Dreams.

Gonzalo, on the other hand, is best known for roles in Supergirl, A Knight to Remember, My Argentine Heart, A Dark Foe, Veronica Mars, Flip That Romance, and How to Train Your Husband.

Created by Jonny Umansky, Change of Heart centers around Charlie Wyatt, a renowned divorce attorney known for winning no matter the cost. When a life-altering heart transplant cracks something wide open inside him, Charlie finds himself pulled, almost against his will, toward a more hopeful way of moving through the world. The show is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Hallmark+ in 2027.
