Atlético in public dig at Real Madrid over Fede Valverde: ‘We want to congratulate you’

The social media team at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have caused quite the stir across the Spanish media late on Friday evening. This comes courtesy of a post taking firm aim at arch rivals Real Madrid.

José Mourinho’s Real are primed to return to action on Saturday evening, when they play host to Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Los Blancos’ matchday squad was in turn unveiled earlier today. Featuring front and centre in as much was Federico Valverde, a welcome boost for Mourinho and co.

Midfielder Valverde was for his part condemned to a spell on the sidelines prior to the international break. The victim of a poorly-timed challenge on the part of Lee Kang-in during the Madrid Derby, the Uruguayan was revealed to have suffered an ankle injury.

Labelled a Grade 3 sprain, Valverde was expected to be ruled out for at least a month, leaving all of a Real Madrid persuasion furious after Kang escaped a potential red card for the tackle in question.

Less than three weeks on, though, the 28-year-old is back fit and available for selection.

And safe to say, this development has not gone at all overlooked on the part of those behind the scenes at the Metropolitano… In a sarcasm-filled post on their official social media platforms on Friday evening, Atlético wrote:

‘We want to congratulate Real Madrid for continuing to make history by proving that 100% of the world medical community was wrong. #MiracleRecovery #MedicalReport #Grade3Sprain #HistoryYouMade’
