Fans will get to see Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor in a form they haven’t seen in years in Avengers: Doomsday. As director Joe Russo explained recently, the filmmakers have a specific vision for how they want to portray Odinson in the upcoming Marvel movie.
Talking to CBR, Joe explained, “It’s fascinating how malleable he is playing that role, and the range that he has. He has a wide array of directors with different tastes and different tones that have interpreted the character.”
The one half of Russo Brothers continued, sharing, “We have a specific point of view on that character. That’s what we’re going to carry forward, the Infinity War Thor.”
He then went on to promise a particularly driven Thor for Doomsday, saying, “We love that sort of warrior version of him, that warrior who has lost everything, who is seeking meaning through battle. Will he ever find it or not? That is the journey he will go on against the greatest foe he’s ever met. As you can see from the trailers, it’s going to be a hell of a fight.”

According to the Doomsday teasers, hor appears to be taking a more reflective path. This includes praying to his father, Odin, for the strength of the All-Fathers as multiversal threats begin to rise.
Joe Russo also explained that the character is stepping back into the hardened, warrior-like mindset he displayed in Avengers: Infinity War to face the multiversal threats and Doctor Doom. Fan theories have also emerged suggesting that the character could unlock the Odinforce or Thorforce, though neither has been confirmed.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
