The 26-year-old Bafana Bafana international joined Pompey from Swedish side IFK Värnamo last summer.

He made 17 appearances for the club during his time in England.

LUKE LE ROUX’S EUROPEAN JOURNEY BEFORE BAFANA BAFANA

His departure comes shortly after his most recent appearance, when he featured for Portsmouth FC in their Carabao Cup first-round clash against West Ham at the London Stadium last month.

Le Roux began his professional career at SuperSport United in South Africa before making the move to Europe.

The Stellenbosch-born midfielder went on to represent Swedish side Varbergs, followed by Dutch club Volendam, before joining IFK Värnamo, where his performances eventually earned him a move to Portsmouth.

His European journey also opened the door to international football, with Le Roux earning his first senior South Africa call-ups under former South Africa head coach Hugo Broos in late 2022.

Le Roux has gone on to earn nine caps for his country, having progressed through South Africa’s youth ranks before making the step up to the senior national team.

PORTSMOUTH FC EXIT FOR SOUTH AFRICAN

Le Roux’s spell at Portsmouth FC ultimately ends after just one season, with the club confirming that the decision was reached by mutual agreement.

Despite making 17 appearances, the 26-year-old was unable to establish himself as a regular starter at the club.

His tactical awareness, positional discipline and ability to distribute the ball have made him a useful squad option throughout his career, particularly during his time in European football.

Now a free agent, Le Roux will have the opportunity to assess his next move as he looks to revive his club career and potentially return to the Bafana Bafana setup.
