Fans of Netflix’s The Watcher got some great news recently, as the show has finally been updated with new information about a second season, four years after the show premiered.
According to a new report from Variety, The Watcher Season 2 is officially underway. The new season of the show will begin production this year in New York. The news comes as the first major update in nearly four years.
The series, which was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, originally premiered on Netflix in October 2022, and was promptly renewed for a second season a month later. However, since then, the show’s status has remained relatively dormant. Now, though, it looks like we’ll be getting more after some time.
No information on whether or not any returning cast members will be back for The Watcher Season 2, nor who might be joining the cast as new stars, has been announced.
What was the first season of Netflix’s The Watcher about? The Watcher is loosely based on a 2018 article in The Cut, “The Haunting of a Dream House,” by Reeves Wiedeman. The article details the real-life issues a couple faced after moving into a home in Westfield, New Jersey from 2014-17.
Throughout those years, the couple were harassed by an unidentified stalker who called themselves “The Watcher.” The stalker left notes to the couple, specifically referencing the home they lived in and its past occupants, and noted they’d been watching the house for generations. No charges have ever been filed in connection with it, and the couple ended up moving out of the home in 2022 due to the issues.
The Watcher Season 1 starred Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Isabel Gravitt, Luke David Blumm, Jennifer Coolidge, Margo Martindale, Richard Kind, Mia Farrow, Terry Kinney, and more.
