What do we see in the Bloodaxe trailer? The teaser follows Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) as he fights to claim Norway’s throne. Jessica Madsen plays his wife, Gunnhild, known as the Mother of Kings. Together, they navigate rival claims, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals as they pursue power.
The teaser also shows a clash between Erik and his half-brother Haakon. Erik adheres to Norse traditions, while Haakon’s time in England has exposed him to Christianity. Both men believe they have a rightful claim to Norway’s throne, setting the stage for a conflict shaped by competing beliefs and ambitions.
Rival Scandinavian kings and an English ruler also become involved in the struggle for power. Michael Hirst created Bloodaxe with his son, Horatio Hirst. The two serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Hirst previously created Vikings. His new series explores another chapter of Norse history, this time centered on Erik Bloodaxe.
Alongside Molyneux and Madsen, the first season stars Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte and Jesper Christensen. MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, produces the series. Prime Video will release Bloodaxe in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
With its first season still months away, the series already has a second season in production. The newly released teaser gives a first look at the saga, which will explore Erik Bloodaxe’s rise amid a violent struggle for Norway’s future.
