Blumhouse‘s upcoming horror-thriller Sleepover has lost an important cast member ahead of its planned release. The actor recently confirmed her departure after reports earlier this month announced her involvement.
Parker Posey confirmed her departure during an appearance on the Today show on October 26, 2026. Host Craig Melvin brought up Sleepover after Variety reported on October 13 that Posey had joined the cast. When asked about her involvement, the actor clarified that she was no longer part of the project.
“No. I’m not doing it anymore,” Posey told Melvin. She confirmed that she had previously joined the film but explained, “It’s not happening anymore. Something came up.” She did not provide further details about her departure.
Melvin then asked, “Are you really not doing Sleepover? Did I screw that up?” Posey confirmed her exit again, prompting the host to acknowledge the awkward moment. He joked, “Okay, well, now it’s really awkward,” before asking co-host Carson Daly to “save us, please” as he moved on to the next segment.
Blumhouse’s Sleepover movie is still currently scheduled to come out in 2027Despite Parker Posey’s departure, Sleepover remains scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 8, 2027. The studio has not announced a replacement or revealed whether the casting change will affect the film’s production schedule.
Jacob Chase will direct the horror-thriller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire. He previously directed Come Play and Insidious: Out of the Further. Sleepover’s story is based on McGuire’s original short story. Jason Blum will produce the film, with Chase, McGuire, and Bea Sequeira serving as executive producers. Lilly Tyson is overseeing the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, while Universal Pictures will handle its theatrical distribution.
The filmmakers have not revealed the plot or announced additional cast members. Hence, Posey’s exit remains the latest development surrounding the project.
