Follow us on Google NewsBNB Smart Chain has implemented the Jenner hardfork on its testnet, enabling a specialized payment method to ensure uninterrupted crypto transfers during network congestion. The update includes Payment Lane, more accurate block timestamps and some foundations for the upcoming CAS20 asset standard.
BSC Payment Lane Locks 5% of Block Gas for TransfersJenner hardfork is now live on BSC testnet!
What the upgrade entails:
🔸 Payment Lane, reserving 5% of block gas by default for eligible payments.
🔸 Millisecond block timestamps for smart contracts.
🔸 Functionality for CAS20, a new Compliant Asset Standard.Payment Lane and CAS20 will go through governance before being fully enabled. More details to follow.

The highlights are Payment Lane, introduced as BEP-703. The default amount of gas the system will place on each block to be used by eligible payment transactions is 5%. The demand for payment doesn’t need to actually be high for general network activity to make use of this reserved capacity.
For example, if a block had a hypothetical 100 million gas limit, 5 million gas would be reserved for payments while general transactions could use up to 95 million. The feature is not a hard limit on payment activity, since under the standard fee rules the remaining block space will be available for eligible payments even if this feature is used.

Stablecoins Need Governance ApprovalNot all the tokens transferred are required to be moved to a reserved lane. Regular accounts are eligible for native transfers between accounts, and when a token contract is listed in a list of regulated payments, it is eligible for transfers. The list has no names of the coins and can be supplemented later by the names of the stablecoins or CAS20 coins.
The direct transfer of a stablecoin contract to an approved token contract could be a possibility. If a transaction is sent via a smart contract that isn’t listed, however, it would still be considered general traffic. Governance can also change the amount of the retailer’s capital in a percentage, capped at 10% in the protocol.
Jenner Adds Millisecond Timing for Smart Contracts
Also, the Jenner upgrade will provide smart contracts with a millisecond level of time resolution. Originally, contracts were used with only seconds as time measurements. Applications that require fine time resolution, such as trading systems, quote and short-lived automated DeFi logic, can gain from improved timestability.
BSC blocks value is not increased after the change. Rather, it provides the developers a more accurate indication of the block generation time.
CAS20 Expands BNB Chain’s Token Framework
Jenner also adds CAS20 compliant functionality, also known as Compliant Asset Standard. In addition to traditional BEP-20 tokens, the framework is expected to also support stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets.
Payment Lane and CAS20 are still subject to governance steps to be fully activated, BNB Chain noted. The testnet allows users to test classification of transactions, supported transaction types and integration behavior before they are available in production.
Validators should reject the blocks that don’t obey gas-allocation rules, and any gas allocation rules are reserved with the block builder. It generalises Payment Lane to be integrated into block validation, hence more than a wallet or app option.
