Who is it okay to steal from? If you said, "nobody," that's a pretty good answer as far as I'm concerned. A lot of people out there liken themselves to Robin Hood, who stole from the rich to give to the poor. In theory, that's a noble method of thievery, but most thieves don't give away the things they stole. They steal from the rich and keep it for themselves. Or they steal from the not-rich and keep it for themselves. Some of the more business-savvy thieves steal from whoever they can and sell it for a profit.
I'm a little dubious about the idea that you can steal from people just because they are rich. It's not very noble to steal from your mother just because she has more money than you do. If you use the economy as an excuse for stealing from your parent, who will need their money for retirement and costs that come with aging, then you are not doing right by her. You're not entitled to anyone else's money, even if they're related to you, or they have more money than they know what to do with. It might not be fair, but life isn't fair.
The young woman in this story has incredibly generous parents who already give her and her boyfriend a myriad of things every time they come over for dinner. Despite their generosity, her boyfriend still wants more. He has taken to raiding their pantry every time they come over in order to bring their grocery costs down to $0. His girlfriend found out, and she's mortified.
