How do you show people that you care about them?
We take people in our lives for granted, that is a universal truth. At some point, we get so used to them being around that we stop telling them how important they actually are. I wish it didn't happen, but it usually does. Little acts of kindness, care, and appreciation fade away as time goes by, and we forget why they were important in the first place. Thankfully, now and then, something snaps us back to reality and reminds us to be better to those we care about. A random internet story, for example.
Brace yourself because this story is intense. A birthday celebration doesn't initially come across as a super dramatic subject, but once you read what this person is upset about, you'll probably change your mind. The problem here is seemingly simple: a man is upset because his partner won't organise anything special for his birthday. Instead, she is spending lots of energy and care organising someone else's celebration. Feels a little childish, but the root of the situation is something we can all relate to: feeling under-appreciated. This story is not really about a birthday celebration, you see, but rather the feeling that people around can't be bothered to show up for you, even when you do show up for them. I told you, it is intense.
Relationships, like Rome, are not built in a day. They take time and effort. Consideration and empathy. It takes a lot of communication and time to actually get to know someone. That said, we all want to feel important, whether on our birthday or at any given moment. It feels nice to be taken into account. It feels great to be celebrated, and it feels spectacular to see the people you love and care about go the extra mile to show you how much they care.
