Mischief charges

A 24-year-old Toronto woman was arrested by Toronto Police at a bike lane demonstration earlier this week.

On Thursday at approximately 3:10 p.m., the police were in the Bloor St. W., and Royal York Rd. area when the alleged incident occurred.

Cops allege that the suspect, who was using a wheelchair at the time, positioned her on one of the curb barriers, interfering with its removal. Police say they directed the accused to leave the scene multiple times, but she refused. Police claim the accused got out of her wheelchair and moved into the middle of the bike lane, impeding the road work. She was arrested at that point.

Aly Vanwyck-Smart was charged with mischief and obstructing a peace officer.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-3505 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
