A constituent of Maximillian’s, basically his financier. Learning about this guy, you find he was a major factor in the rise of the Habsburgs.
This is why I always say you can’t overlook the city states of Italy or the free cities within the Empire. Fugger was from Augsburg and had his hands in every cookie jar—textiles, mining, banking, etc.
Fugger is responsible for assuring Charles V’s election, regarding his competition with Francis. So really the two big bosses of the early Habsburgs could have never got of the ground without him.
