The Bruins are switching from all-black to all-brown for the first time in more than a century.

Boston unveiled its Hometown Remix uniforms on Monday, showing off a new "Varsity Sweater" look. It is the Bruins' first all-brown uniform since the franchise made its debut during the 1924-25 season, and the style pays homage to the region's elite college hockey programs.

"College hockey is a big part of Boston's identity, and the tradition and success of the programs in our city have helped make this one of the best hockey communities in the world," Bruins president Cam Neely said. "The Varsity Sweater is a great way to recognize that history while bringing back elements of the Bruins' original look.

"It's a unique jersey that celebrates both our team's history and the strong connection between the Bruins and Boston's hockey community."

There are a few small touches that elevate the new look, including front-side numerals and an inside hemline that serves as a nod to Boston's Freedom Trail.

A lot of college-style themes in the Bruins' new sweater, but the inside hemline also mimics the red-brick Freedom Trail. https://t.co/aZXnLA33Fj
