Fangtopia is a relaxing, spooky-themed puzzle game where you are creating a world for ghosts, monsters and ghouls through placing a bunch of hexagon tiles onto a map. You can build on what is already there, adding trees to forests and houses to towns, which combo them up to increase your points. You can also get some special tiles over time, which are through two choices, that need completing within your town.
Fangtopia has a few different game modes, from a short game mode that has bite-sized sessions to a large island building mode for longer sessions. There is also an Island Mode where you can connect a bunch of different archipelagos by putting down ghost train tracks! It’s quite interesting watching the world itself grow and come to life with all of the various animations that start to appear on the land that you are creating.
At the same time, Fangtopia doesn’t feel like a particularly challenging or intense game. You can place many of the times at various different points and it’s very forgiving, even if you don’t pick the exact best place at all. The suggested objectives, often asking for specific tiles to be linked up to buildings, can draw new monsters in your world by making places that are welcoming for them. Otherwise, there is no real timer or pressure to build beyond just want to complete these little challenges and doing these little puzzles.
You can also collect stickers if you follow these goals, which add to the cute and fun nature of this spooky game. I got the chance to play Fangtopia at Brilliant Indie Treasures, where I found it to be a lot of fun!
You can purchase Fangtopia on Steam.
