BYD recently shared the initial design sketches of the second-generation BYD Seagull hatchback. We are expecting to see the longer Great Seagull later this year, and these drawings give us some insight into its new design.
The mostly white render shows off a flatter nose with three-bulb headlamps up front. Based on images from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Great Seagull seems to have adopted those two components. At the same time, the new version also retains the Seagull’s sharp angles and rectangular shape.

While the black-and-white sketch comes across like a lowered body with aerodynamic aesthetics, the green render looks more like a modern BYD model. Between this drawing and the Great Seagull, there are some similarities in the shapes of their tailgates, but the latter does look noticeably taller, with a more dramatic curvy shape.

You may also recall that at Auto China 2026, BYD also showed off an upgraded version of the normal Seagull. It was outfitted with LiDAR and a bigger battery, all fitting inside the familiar subcompact shell.

Considering that these renders don’t show off any hard dimensions, it would be interesting to see these designs make their way to the conventional Seagull. It appears that BYD is going to sell the Great Seagull alongside its normal version to give buyers more options in the entry-level EV market. It’s certainly time for the Seagull to get a substantial update, and with these sketches, BYD could have enough ideas for years (or perhaps generations) to come.
