Canadian woman, 75, accused of illegally voting in three U.S. elections

A 75-year-old Canadian woman living in Florida has been accused by the U.S. Justice Department of illegally voting in three federal elections.

Authorities say Christiane Vinette Young, a Canadian citizen who is illegally living in the U.S., has been charged by information with three counts of voting by an alien.

It is alleged she cast ballots in the 2024 general election, 2022 general election, and 2022 primary in Fort Myers.

“An information is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said in a statement .

Not a U.S. citizen, authorities say

She is accused of voting three times despite knowing that she is not a U.S. citizen.

If convicted on all counts, the accused faces a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison.

U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the charges Wednesday.

Unknown how accused registered to vote

Officials did not explain how the accused obtained the ballots or how authorities discovered that a non-citizen managed to register and vote in the elections and primary.

It is also unknown where in Canada the accused is originally from.

The Justice Department said the case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Lee County Supervisor of Elections.

No court dates have been announced in the case.
