Adam Driver finally broke his silence on the failed Kylo Ren Star Wars movie. The actor revealed exactly what happened behind the scenes with Steven Soderbergh’s scrapped Ben Solo project.
The Hunt for Ben Solo is truly deadAdam Driver confirmed on The Rich Eisen Show that The Hunt for Ben Solo will not move forward. The actor appeared on the show to promote his upcoming film Paper Tiger. He declared that his time in the Star Wars franchise is finished.
“It’s over. No more Star Wars. We tried,” Driver told host Rich Eisen during the interview. He revealed that Disney passed on the project after Lucasfilm brought it to executives. “We tried to do one more, yeah, but they were like, ‘No, he’s dead,’” Driver said, referencing Ben Solo’s fate in The Rise of Skywalker.
Driver explained that he and director Steven Soderbergh developed the project seriously over an extended period. The team included screenwriters Scott Z. Burns and Jules Asner, who wrote under the pseudonym Rebecca Blunt. “We worked on it for a few years, really and earnestly for two years,” Driver said. He described the resulting script as “really good.”
The actor acknowledged that Disney or Lucasfilm could still revive the project. However, he does not expect that to happen. “If they wanted to, fine. But I think the ship has sailed,” Driver said.
Driver also expressed gratitude for the passionate fan campaign that supported the project. Fans purchased billboards, including one in Times Square, and flew planes over Disney’s offices. “The fans’ response to it, though, was pretty incredible,” he said. “I didn’t expect that it was going to be billboards and people flying planes over Disney and things like that. That was pretty cool.”
The next Star Wars theatrical release will be Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. That film arrives in theaters on May 28, 2027.
