Coming back took me longer than I wanted to be honest. Obviously I don’t want to have this time off because of an injury, but in the future i’ll take some breaks, i’ll take longer breaks. Maybe not four months, but one or two months, missing some tournaments, because it’s impossible to play them all.
I think they’re adding more important tournaments and in a way they’re forcing us to play. You can say no, you can stick to one or two, you can decide your schedule, but there are masters 1000s, grand slams, and we’ve been playing 40 weeks; if we had to play every mandatory tournament the atp requires us to play, it’s impossible, and we’re seeing a lot of players getting injured, a lot of players getting tired.
If they don’t do anything about it, we’re going to see even more cases in the future. In my case, taking this time off because of an injury wasn’t ideal, but what i’m saying is that i’ll definitely take some breaks and miss some tournaments in the future.
OP note:
Carlos has been vocal about the schedule and it's toll on him and players, now and in the future, since 2024. It seems a lot of what he was warning about has manifested greatly in past couple of years. Not a surprising answer.
