The Chester Beatty occupies Dublin Castle’s Clock Tower Building, a U-shaped structure incorporating fabric dating to the mid-18th century and substantially remodeled around 1820. The early-19th-century work is generally attributed to Francis Johnston, one of the major Irish architects of the period, although the attribution isn’t, to the best of my knowledge absolutely documented. The building originally served the Ordnance Office/Royal Engineers.
