This 427ci Chevrolet ZL1 V8 has an aluminum engine block, intake manifold, and cylinder heads cast by Winters. The engine was previously installed in a 1965 Corvette owned by the best friend of the seller’s father-in-law. The seller’s father-in-law inherited the car and gifted the engine to the seller in 2018. Pro Street Engines rebuilt the engine and tested it on a dynamometer in 2019, and it has since been stored in the seller’s garage. Chevrolet developed the 427ci ZL1 V8 for racing applications, and it was offered in the 1969 Corvette and Camaro. Its aluminum construction reduced overall weight by approximately 150 pounds compared with that of its cast-iron equivalent. The aluminum block uses cast-iron cylinder liners, and the open-chamber cylinder heads feature round exhaust ports.
Winters casting marks are visible on the block, intake manifold, and cylinder heads. The block bears casting number 3946052, and identification markings and casting numbers on other components are shown in the gallery. A Holley double-pumper carburetor with an electric choke is installed.
The engine rebuild was completed in August 2019, and a four-page invoice detailing the work is included at the end of the gallery.
