Just as one season ends, another begins for Chowchilla native Asterisk Talley. Talley returned to her home course on Friday for the annual Asterisk Open Tournament at Pheasant Run Golf Club.
Except this year, Talley brought back some hardware in the form of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship trophy.
"I knew it was going to be a special event and it just meant everything," Talley said. "Just to take that home with my dad there too was extra special for sure."
One of the top young talents is soon to be a full-fledged professional, earning exemptions into the 2027 U.S. Women's Open, Augusta National and three Majors.
"It's definitely going to be a little nerve-wracking the first couple of times, but definitely just super excited to get out there," Talley said.
However, before she hits the links next year, she sat down for a pleasant night at Pheasant Run with friends and family, fundraising for her future.
"I never knew like so many people would turn out, and it's cool just to have these people not even like come to golf," Talley said. "They just come to the dinner just to support. I mean, I think it's super special to see all of them tonight."
After raising $17,000 through auctions and sponsorships, Pheasant Run presented Talley with a giant check to commemorate the event.
"These people support me wherever I go and I know that whether I win or lose," Talley said. "They're always going to be behind my back and it's definitely cool just to kind of hear from them after every tournament, just kind of like how proud they are."
