By all accounts, Luka Doncic's minicamp for his Los Angeles Lakers teammates in Slovenia was a success. It was an opportunity for the many new members of the roster to start to build chemistry and cohesiveness, and it also allowed Doncic to flex his leadership muscles now that he's the team's undisputed franchise player.

But that minicamp wasn't all about basketball. There were also some fun excursions that were planned, such as golf, bike riding and sightseeing. It allowed everyone to bond together and to get to know one another better.

New Lakers guard Collin Sexton is expected to play a key role this season as the team's sixth man and someone who will supply instant offense, ball-handling, facilitating and pace creation. He told ESPN L.A. 710 that the minicamp was helpful for everyone and that it showed that Doncic is serious about becoming an effective leader.

“I would say it was one of those trips where it was more like team-building for us,” Sexton said. “It was for us to gel and work out, not just in the States, but away. And also just the culture, for Luka to do that, it just shows a true leader, and you can tell that’s the role that he wants to fall into this season and be the one to lead us.”

One activity the Lakers took part in while at the minicamp was rowing, something Sexton said wasn't as easy as he may have thought it would be.

“For sure, it definitely was. It wasn’t the easiest,” Sexton admitted. “When you see it on TV, everyone’s in sync and I think I got caught under a few times struggling. We had a great time, and it was one of those events where it was just fun. It didn’t feel like it was forced, everything flowed and our days were packed with a bunch of different things”The hope is that

The hope is that while the Lakers have one or two positional holes on their roster and perhaps still not enough plus defenders on the perimeter, the whole will end up being greater than the sum of the parts. Doncic has proven in the past that he can have that type of effect on his teams, and with him looking very fit and slim this summer, he could perhaps put Los Angeles in position to surprise people.
