Como continued a dream start to their debut Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a 9-1 thrashing of Lens, which was the biggest win for an away side in the competition's history.

The Italians also matched and in terms of goals surpassed the record for biggest margin of victory in the Champions League proper.

They equalled Bayern Munich's nine goals in their 9-2 triumph over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024 and went one better than Liverpool and Real Madrid, who both beat Beşiktaş and Malmö 8-0 in the group stages in 2007 and 2015.

Tasos Douvikas scored a hat-trick for Cesc Fàbregas' Como in north-eastern France while Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli also netted.

Como only secured promotion to Serie A in 2024 after a 21-year absence before finishing fourth last term to qualify for their maiden Champions League campaign.

So far in Europe, I Lariani have scored 19 goals in four games - including a 4-1 home win over three-times champions Manchester United.

They sit fourth in the table with three wins from four, a 3-2 defeat at Feyenoord their sole blemish. Above Como are only last season's runners-up and English titleholders Arsenal, record Champions League winners Real Madrid and trophy holders Paris Saint-Germain on top.
