Who else was terrified of the Other Mother as a kid?

I'll tell you the truth: I actually never watched Coraline when I was young. Back then, I was easily scared, and I jumped in my seat just by seeing the trailer. If I remember correctly, the first time I ever watched it was at school. Our art teacher wanted to do a project related to audiovisual design, and since the movie was stop-motion and had some amazing visuals, she chose it for all of us to watch. I was a teenager and realized I had never seen it as a kid, so I just sat there with all my classmates, hoping that the movie wasn't too heavy to digest. Mind you, this teacher had a reputation for choosing to work with her students on a bunch of not-so-appropriate movies, so you'll imagine why I was nervous, but we can go into that some other time.

Long story short, I really loved the movie. The art was indeed beautiful, and it wasn't so scary. Well, I was already old enough not to be scared, but if I had seen it as a kid, I wouldn't have slept for a week. The concept of an existing alternate universe where there are replicas of your parents who demand you stay there and sew buttons into your eyes still sends chills down my spine. If it were live action, it would be considered body horror. Although the buttons are not the scariest part. Having to sell your soul to the Other Mother and giving up on everything you know is.
