Cats were living the cottagecore lifestyle long before the rest of us started dreaming about running away to the countryside. Sleeping in the sun, wandering through gardens, curling up in baskets, and having absolutely nowhere to be? That's basically the feline daily schedule.
A garden is obviously the place to start. While their hoomans are busy planting flowers and pulling weeds, cats are handling the important jobs. Someone needs to sit directly in the freshly turned soil. Someone needs to inspect every watering can. And if there's an empty flowerpot sitting around, it would be irresponsible not to climb inside.
Flowers also make excellent accessories. Put a kitty beside some wildflowers and suddenly they look like they should have their own little cottage at the end of a dirt path. Add a flower crown or tiny bonnet and it's over. That cat is spending the afternoon picking berries and baking bread, and nobody can convince us otherwise.
The indoor cottage life isn't bad either. There are cozy blankets, old books, wooden furniture, and baskets just begging to become beds. A windowsill overlooking the garden provides hours of birdwatching, while a warm kitchen offers plenty of opportunities to supurrvise whatever the hoomans are making.
Even the cottagecore obsession with homemade bread works perfectly for cats. They've been making biscuits for years, and nobody gives them enough credit for it. When the work is done, they can simply tuck their paws underneath themselves and become a loaf.
Honestly, we can see the appeal. Give us a quiet cottage, a garden full of flowers, something warm in the oven, and a few cats wandering around without a care in the world.
Just make sure you plant extra catnip in the garden.
