Sul Sul, The Sims are getting smarter, but where will they go from now?
In September 2026, EA released an update focused on improving Sims' autonomy and making them smarter. Apparently, players don't have to constantly direct them, and they can behave more logically.
Sadly, Sims no longer inexplicably walk to the kitchen after going to the bathroom to wash their hands. They logically wash their hands at the bathroom sink. EA has openly said they're investing in AI, but they haven't confirmed any new releases.
I fantasized so many times about an endless Sims world, and that might come true very soon. Theoretically, AI could help make The Sims an endless game. What if we could alter every detail of our sim by just describing it? What if AI could recreate a very complex personality or look?
We could even try out a relationship before it happens. I mean, we would load our personalities onto the character, and what we know about our crush's personality, and see how it goes! Well, now that I think about it, that sounds terrible and dystopian, but the whole AI thing is terrible and dystopian, so people should let us play in peace, I guess.
I would love to experiment with more complex Sims appearances, or see my Sims age in a more coherent, sophisticated manner. I always say I would like to have an alternative body where I could try out horrible tattoos, dye my hair an insane color, or eat everything I want and gain a lot of weight. I think The Sims is the place to experiment with those fantasies.
I could study the career I never pursued, or remain in the relationship that ended in real life. This game wouldn't be good for me, lol. In fact, it would be very bad. It's like a candy store for my nostalgia. I literally have enough with my imagination; I can't go and replicate it in a game. Besides, why would I recreate the past when I can literally create a bright future? Or an entirely different life that doesn't have anything to do with me?
Either way, AI would expand the game's possibilities a lot. I sincerely hope they use it. I can't wait to play new versions. I suppose AI will expand most of our favourite games' worlds. It will probably change the way we experience gaming entirely, and frankly, I'm here for it.
I don't know if this will be the last straw that makes us completely addicted to screens and the virtual, or if it will actually produce the contrary effect, but we can't stop the change once it has already started.
OMG, what will happen to Age of Empires? I just remembered that game. Will they use generative AI? That could be the most amazing thing. I literally played the first version. You can guess how old I am. I guess I have plans for the weekend.
Even though I will obviously try the new versions if they ever come out, I will always love and play the vintage versions, limitations and all.
