Charlie Cox explained why ending Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ is different from the cancellation of the original Netflix series. Although the upcoming third season will end the Marvel series, Cox views the opportunity to conclude the story on the cast’s terms as a gift.

According to MCU Film News, Cox discussed the decision to conclude Daredevil: Born Again after three seasons on Disney+ while speaking at MCM Comic Con. The actor said, “We’ve had the opportunity to end on our terms. I would take that any time over what happened last time with Netflix, where we didn’t get that opportunity.”

Daredevil: Born Again premiered on Disney+ in March 2025, more than six years after Netflix canceled the original Daredevil series in November 2018. The revival brought Cox back as Matt Murdock, continuing the story of the blind lawyer and vigilante after the original Daredevil series ran for three seasons.

Why Netflix canceled Daredevil after three seasons

Netflix canceled Daredevil in November 2018, shortly after its third season premiered. It was the first Netflix Marvel series to be canceled after three seasons. Netflix announced the cancellation in a statement.

It read, “Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season, and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.” The streaming service also praised the show’s cast, crew, and fans for their support, expressing gratitude. Despite the cancellation, Netflix also indicated that the character could return in future Marvel projects.

Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly follow Matt Murdock’s release from prison, with the story taking place six months after Season 2.

The series will officially premiere in March 2027 with eight episodes.
