Delaware State mustered little offensive firepower and lost 28-3 to Albany in a nonconference football game played before a sellout homecoming crowd at Bob Ford Field in Albany, New York, on Oct. 3.
The Hornets managed just 192 total yards, including 29 on the ground. While they limited Albany to 226, the Great Danes still scored four touchdowns.
DSU slipped to 3-3 while losing for the first time in three games against Coastal Athletic Association foes. Albany improved to 3-3.
Starter Ui Ale was 11-for-21 passing for 78 yards and an interception before Noah Brannock took over in the fourth period for DSU.
Brannock was sacked on a fourth-and-goal at the Albany 7 with 8:47 left. He was 3-for-12 passing for 85 yards.
ON OFFENSE: DelState seeks new identity after last year's ground gains
Albany’s first touchdown came after intercepting a pass and taking over at the DSU 21. Five plays later, Aidan Semo passed 6 yards to Rahshan La Mons for the touchdown with 7:22 left in the first period.
DSU did answer with Patrick Fisher-Butler’s 45-yard field goal.
The Hornets’ defense came up big in the second quarter, stopping Semo for no gain on a fourth-and-1 keeper from the DSU 4.
But the Hornets then had to punt from deep in their own territory, with Albany taking over at the DSU 16 after a 25-yard return. Albany then went up 14-3 after La Mons’ 2-yard TD run with 2:03 to go in the second period and took that lead into halftime.
Albany increased the lead to 21-3 after Joey Koch’s 2-yard run with 1:11 left in the third quarter. Semo’s 12-yard TD pass to B.J. Norman with 14:26 to go made it 28-3.
