Donald Trump has claimed many wins on the golf course over the years, and now he can claim one more, thanks to Team USA golf captain Brandt Snedeker.
Team USA was facing a three-point deficit entering Sunday’s final round from Medinah, IL, but they rallied to defeat the International Team and win their 11th consecutive Presidents Cup. After being outplayed the previous three days, what changed for the United States on Sunday? It must have been Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, or Jacob Bridgeman, right? Apparently, it was Trump, as honorary chairman, greeting the players ahead of the final round.
Trump’s involvement wasn’t a good luck charm for the U.S. men’s national soccer team during the World Cup, or for the New York Knicks at the NBA Finals, but his presence at the Presidents Cup seemed more welcome. After Team USA’s comeback win, Snedeker credited Trump.

“All these guys fought for each other, fought for this country, fought for this team,” Snedeker said during his post-match interview. “And one last shout-out to Donald Trump, President Trump. He told me I was going to bring some energy today for you guys, you guys need it, and I told him if we did this, he gets all the credit. So, thank you, President Trump.”
Trump’s golf skills have long been a topic of discussion, with some, like Brandel Chamblee, fawning over his game, while others, such as Rick Reilly, have claimed he’s nothing more than a cheat.
“He throws it, boots it, and moves it. He lies about his lies. He fudges and foozles and fluffs,” Reilly famously alleged of Trump’s golf game in his 2019 book Commander in Cheat.
Unfortunately, Trump golf truthers will now have to live with the president believing he actually won the Presidents Cup for Team USA, because that’s what Brandt Snedeker announced to the world.
